Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, NOV. 18 . The president of the Pradesh Congress Committee and Member of Parliament, V. Narayanasamy on Wednesday called for implantation of the Goondas Act in the union territory to prevent video piracy and protect the film industry. At a press meet here today, the Congress leader praised the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister for introducing measures to protect the film industry. He said Pondicherry was becoming a haven for those involved in video piracy and unless strict laws were enforced, the menace could not be controlled. Existing criminal laws were inadequate to thwart video piracy. On a different note, Mr. Narayanasamy said the VHP secretary-general, Praveen Togadia, should be arrested for "his highly objectionable observation" made in Chennai on November 15 linking the arrest of the Kanchi Acharya with the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi. It was a matter of concern that parties such as the Bharatiya Janata Party, Shiv Sena, and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad were trying to cash in on the arrest of the Acharya.
