Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, NOV. 18. The Health and Labour Minister of Pondicherry, E. Valsaraj, has called on women to launch income-generating units by joining cooperative societies. He suggested that women could start cooperative undertakings to run banks. Inaugurating a five-day training programme for rural women on `behavioural skill management' at Ariyur near here, Mr. Valsaraj said that the administration proposed to start a College of Education offering a B.Ed course in Mahe. The training camp now inaugurated in Ariyur had been organised in collaboration with the Sudhanthira Devi Madhar Sangam in the village. Thirty women had enrolled and the training would enable them to improve their communication skills. They would also be trained in childcare. Labour Welfare Centres opened in 11 villages in Pondicherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam, were training women in tailoring, embroidery and handicrafts. The Labour Commissioner, Rattan Singh, said another Labour Welfare Centre would be opened at Sederapet shortly.
