Sensex manages to end above 6000-mark

MUMBAI, NOV. 18. The 30-share Bombay Stock Exchange sensitive index today managed to end past the 6000-mark for the second straight day, with a nine-point rise even though higher levels attracted profit taking in an otherwise bullish sentiment. The Sensex opened better at 6019.85 and later moved irregularly between 6035.22 and 5985.57 before ending at 6025.47 against yesterday's close of 6016.58, a net gain of 8.89 points. IT major Satyam Computer hogged the limelight on reports that the company was considering an issue of sponsored ADRs to increase overseas float. The scrip closed with a sharp rise.

Select banking stocks, particularly the mid-cap counters, also attracted brisk activity. SBI, Dena Bank, Andhra Bank, Punjab National Bank, Vijaya Bank, J&K Bank and Bank of Baroda scored impressive gains on fairly heavy buying support.

Operators and retail investors were seen booking profits at the day's higher levels while institutional investors continued to make purchases during the trading.
