MYSORE, NOV. 18. C.H. Vijayashankar, Mysore MP, today promised that he would raise the issue of animal deaths at the Mysore zoo with the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) and seek steps to tone up the administration.

Addressing presspersons after the inauguration of the MP's city office at the Government Guesthouse Grounds at Nazarbad here, he said he would also make an on-the-spot assessment to ascertain the conditions in the zoo and take steps to rectify the lapses in the administration and bring about an improvement in its management.

Confusion

Mr. Vijayashankar said he perceived confusion in the affairs of the zoo. "I will visit the zoo in a fortnight and hold discussions with the authorities there before chalking out programmes to be implemented in a time-bound manner,'' he added.

On the railway recruitment drive and the allegations that Kannadigas were sidelined by the Railway authorities, Mr. Vijayashankar said there had been certain lapses during recruitment and he would meet senior officials of the Railway Board next week to sort out the issue. He promised to raise the issue in Parliament.

Blueprint

On the development of the region, Mr. Vijayshankar said a blueprint would be prepared at the earliest. Efforts would be made to complete the long-pending projects such as doubling the railway line between Mysore and Bangalore and the Mysore airstrip soon.

The MP said he would be present in his office on Mondays and Fridays when Parliament was not in session. On other days, people could send their petitions to the office, he added.
