NEW DELHI, NOV. 18. Even as the Haryana Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala, today claimed that a decision to take the Metro rail line from Delhi to Faridabad was taken at a recent meeting of the National Capital Region Planning Board, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, which has been implementing the Metro project in the Capital, has not been apprised of the move as yet. It is ironical therefore that while Mr Chautala publicly declared at a press conference in Faridabad that the proposal to connect the town to Delhi via Metro has been approved, the agency responsible for executing the plan remains completely in the dark about any such plan. A senior Delhi Metro official said so far the Corporation has not been informed of any such initiative and no formal proposal had also been made to it. Though DMRC was also represented at the NCR Planning Board meeting, the matter did not come up before it. Mr Chautala, however, created quite an interest in the project as he gave some specifics and claimed that the line would be extended to Faridabad in Phase II of the project, which is now in an advanced stage of planning, as against Phase III, which would be taken up at least three years later. Also, he claimed that the decision was taken at a recent NCR Planning Board meeting and said he had also called for taking the Metro to the two other satellite townships of Gurgaon and Bahadurgarh. The declaration also caught those concerned by surprise as at the same meeting Mr Chautala was also quoted to have declared that for the Mehrauli-Gurgaon section, he intended bringing in the Sky Bus system developed by Konkan Railway under the patronage and guidance of its inventor and Managing Director, B. Rajaram. But now by once again stating that the Metro project was sought for Gurgaon, he has got many tongues wagging.
