NEW DELHI, NOV 18. A man was today sentenced to seven years' rigorous imprisonment by a city court which held him guilty of attempting to kill and rob a scooterist here over an year ago. Additional Sessions Judge D.S. Pawaria also imposed a fine of Rs 1500 on the convict Mohammed Furkhan for attacking Mahesh Nand while he was returning home from work in February last year. The incident dates back to February 1, 2003, when Nand was returning to his house in Kalkaji from Sangam Vihar. As he reached near the Okhla Phase I petrol pump in South Delhi, his scooter stopped as there was no fuel in it. Since the pump had already downed shutters for the day, Nand was left with no other option than to push the vehicle home. On the way, Furkhan came from behind and hit him. The convict then threatened him to hand over his belongings. However, Nand would not give in and he grappled with the convict. Furkhan broke free, took out his pistol and fired at Nand and the bullet hit him in the hand and stomach.
