NEW DELHI, NOV 18. The Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Jagdish Mukhi, today accused top officials of the Delhi State Industrial Development Corporation (DSIDC) of involvement in an "appointment scam'', making recruitments "through the backdoor in violation of all rules and norms". In a statement here, Mr. Mukhi alleged that under pressure from the Minister in-charge and certain MLAs, the top DSIDC officials had recruited 17 people on October 29 in violation of all rules. Shockingly the appointments were neither done through employment exchange nor through the Delhi State Subordinate Selection Board (DSSSB) indicating that serious corruption had taken place. Mr. Mukhi stated that he would be writing to the Delhi Lieutenant-Governor, B.L. Joshi, seeking a thorough probe into the 17 appointments. Incidentally, he said that certain illegal appointments were made by DSIDC in March this year and he had brought the matter before the previous Lieutenant-Governor following which these recruitments were cancelled. Opposing the manner in which these appointments were made, the BJP leader said appointments were made without creation of posts. He said without creation of posts no appointments could be made and that also in such a manner. He charged that people were being appointment in the liquor shops of DSDIC in an arbitrary manner by taking bribes and demanded a probe by Mr. Joshi and action against the guilty officials. Mr. Mukhi also opposed the imposition of "professional tax'' proposed by the Congress ruled MCD and warned that his party would not allow any such tax to be imposed on the people of Delhi at any cost. Stating that the party was ready for a battle against the MCD as well as the Sheila Dikshit Government on this issue, Mr. Mukhi said such a move amounted to burdening of the professionals, businessmen and trading community and this was unacceptable to the BJP and its Legislature Party.
