Sastha Pancharatnam CD released

NEW DELHI NOV. 18 . A compact disc of Sastha Pancharatnam composed by the musician and flautist, P.N. Krishnan, was released by Asthika Samaj of Kesavapuram at the Aiswarya Mahaganapathi Temple, Lawrence Road here on Sunday.

The release ceremony was held before a large number of music lovers and devotees, who were informed that the lyrics of the songs were in chaste Sanskrit.

Commemorating Indo-Russian relations

NEW DELHI NOV. 18 . A special cover on the Russian Centre of Science and Culture, describing it as a symbol of Indo-Russian Cultural Relations for Four Decades, was released to commemorate the forthcoming visit of the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, to India at a function held at the Centre on Wednesday. The special cover was presented to the Union Home Minister, Shivraj Patil, and to the Russian Ambassador-Designate to India, I. Trubnikov, by the Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology, Shakeel Ahmad. Speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries cited numerous examples of the age-old friendship and cultural relations of India and Russia and stressed the need for cementing the ties further as they have been fruitful and mutually beneficial.

Vigilance Week observed

NEW DELHI NOV. 18. To create awareness about corruption among school children and to prepare them in fighting it, The Indian School observed a Vigilance Awareness Week from November 1. The event kicked off with a talk on consumer awareness by television serial producer V.K. Pillai, who urged the students to activate their spirit of enquiry and make necessary investigations before buying any product.

As part of the programme, posters on consumer awakening under the topic "Jago Grahak Jago'' were also made by students and teachers. Joining in the event were students of Delhi Public School, East Delhi, who staged a street play titled `Heritage watch' on the need to respect and preserve the rich legacy of culture, values, languages and heritage monuments. A session on career counselling was also held during the week with Usha Albuquerque delivering a talk on choosing the right institution for pursuing the career of their choice. And while Diwali brought in a long weekend, the students were given a surprise on Children's Day with the teachers of the school donning school uniforms and presenting a cultural programme. A rangoli competition was also held along with plays being staged to promote a pollutionless Diwali.

SBI, Hero Honda tie-up

NEW DELHI NOV. 18. The State Bank of India and Hero Honda Motors Limited have entered into an all-India tie-up for financing Hero Honda two-wheelers.

The Chairman of Hero Honda, Brij Mohan Lall, and the Managing Director and Group Executive of State Bank of India, New Delhi, Ashok Kini, signed a memorandum of understanding in this regard this past week. The Managing Director of Hero Honda, Pawan Munjal and Chief General Manager of State Bank of India, B.K. Gairola, and its General Manager, N. Raja, were also present on the occasion. While Hero Honda has nominated the State Bank of India as a preferred financier for its two wheelers, the latter has agreed to finance the vehicles at the best terms in the market through its vast branch network.
