Bihar doctors call off strike

By K.Balchand

PATNA, NOV. 18. Doctors in Bihar called off their six-day indefinite strikein the interest of the public after an emergency meeting today.

This followed steps taken by the State Government to meet their demands, including efforts to get the release of the abducted physician, Nagendra Prasad.

The State unit chief of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Vijay Shanker Singh, made the announcement that the Government had conceded most of its demands, including providing security to the doctors who had been receiving threats from extortionists.

The media cell coordinator, Brajnadan Yadav, said that an agreement would be signed between the IMA and the State Government on Monday.

The IMA steering committee would also meet regularly to take stock of the situation.
