Misty morning likely

NEW DELHI NOV. 18. Delhiites will wake up to a misty morning on Friday. However, the sky will remain mainly clear during the day and the minimum temperature is likely to hover around 13 degrees Celsius.

While the maximum and minimum temperatures at Safdarjung on Thursday were recorded at 29.9 degrees and 16.2 degrees Celsius respectively, Palam recorded a maximum of 29.8 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 17.5 degrees Celsius.

Safdarjung recorded a maximum humidity of 86 per cent and a minimum of 28 per cent, while at Palam, the maximum and minimum humidity was 79 per cent and 25 per cent respectively.

Pension scheme approved

NEW DELHI NOV. 18. Delhi University's Executive Council today approved the new defined contribution pension scheme recently introduced by the Central Government. Applicable to all Central Government employees who joined on or after January 1, 2004, except those in the armed forces, the contribution pension scheme replaces the existing entitlement pension scheme.

Working on a two-tier system, the new scheme would make it mandatory for the employees to contribute 10 per cent of their pay and dearness allowance towards the pension, while the Government would contribute 10 per cent. The fund collected would be managed by fund managers designated by the Government.

Suicide

NEW DELHI NOV. 18 . A Delhi police constable, Karn Singh, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling in his barrack at Old Civil Lines in North Delhi on Wednesday. According to the police, the body was found hanging in barrack No. 9 this morning. No suicide note was recovered from the spot.
