BANGALORE, NOV. 18. The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) on Wednesday resumed asphalting over 1,000 km of arterial and sub-arterial roads. "This is in tune with the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh's direction to the BMP to take up works after the monsoon. "We had stopped asphalting because of the rain," the BMP Engineer-in-Chief, Ramegowda, told The Hindu on Thursday. He said all roads would be asphalted at a cost of Rs. 130 crores by the end of April next. The work, designed in 114 packages, had been awarded to 25 contractors. "Of these, nearly 400 km would be laid using plastic bitumen mix," he said and added that the contractors had been asked to adhere to the deadline.
