THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, NOV. 18. A kindergarten student was killed in a freak accident at Thiruvallam here today evening when the wheel ring of a speeding lorry flew off and hit his head. The police said that Akhil Dev, an LKG student at the Sundar Public School, Uchakada, had alighted from the school bus when the flying wheel ring caught him on the forehead. According to police, the lorry carrying bricks from Marthandam to Thiruvallam, developed a puncture in its front wheel. As the driver fought for control, the wheel ring detached itself and flew into the air. The boy was thrown to the side of the road with the fore part of his head ripped off by the impact. He died on the spot. The body was later shifted to the Medical College Hospital mortuary in a police ambulance. The lorry was taken into custody. The driver is absconding.
