Vijayawada
By Our Special Correspondent
VIJAYAWADA, NOV. 18. The Vijayawada city committee of the Students Federation of India (SFI) has strongly opposed the reported move by Acharya Nagarjuna University authorities to introduce semester system in degree colleges. The university's move will put burden on students hailing from lower and middle classes as they will be made to pay lab and term fee twice a year in addition to the admission and tuition fee, the SFI city secretary, P. Shankar said. In a press release issued here on Thursday, Mr. Shankar expressed concern that the university authorities were not taking steps to fill up vacant lecturer posts in various degrees colleges, which was adversely affecting students. In addition, vacancies in laboratories and libraries in different colleges were also resulting in depriving students of the necessary study material. In view of this, the SFI demanded the authorities to withdraw the move to introduce semester system in the degree colleges.
