CHANDIGARH, NOV.19. The Government machinery, particularly the Health Department in Haryana, has been geared up to ensure successful implementation of the next National Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation round which will commence from November 21. The Director- General of Health Services, B.S.Dahiya, said here today that about 38 lakh children would be administered polio drops during this round. Dr.Dahiya said that nearly 15,000 Pulse Polio Immunisation (PPI) booths, including transit booths, and mobile teams would be set up at locations convenient to the people. The booths would be managed by 60,000 vaccinators from the Health Department, the Integrated Child Development Schemes and the Education Department besides volunteers of non-Governmental organisations. About 2,500 supervisors would also be deputed to supervise the functioning of the vaccination teams and to ensure that no child was left un-immunised. About 100 independent monitors from the World Health Organisation, medical colleges, voluntary sector and also the officers of the Health Department and respective district administrations would be monitoring the activity to ensure quality and complete coverage. About 2,500 vehicles would be deployed for distribution of vaccine and other related material to PPI booths and for supervisory work, he added. He appealed to the people to extend whole-hearted cooperation for the success of this programme. It may be recalled that during the current year, four national rounds had already been conducted in January, February, April and October besides one sub-national round in May in the State. The extensive mop-up rounds were also conducted in the districts of Sonipat, Panipat and Karnal in July and August 2004.
