CHAMARAJANAGAR, NOV. 19. The unauthorised absence of duty doctors at the district hospital caused a lot of commotion on Thursday. The enraged patients staged a demonstration protesting against their absence and locked the hospital gate. It is said that the duty doctors were absent, forcing a number of pregnant women and other patients to wait for the doctors' arrival. The demonstrators raised slogans against the doctors and said that the dereliction of duties and negligence by the doctors could not be tolerated. They urged the Deputy Commissioner to take disciplinary action against the doctors. They also said that long standing doctors should be transferred from the hospital to ensure good administration at the hospital. They alleged that the doctors, who are commuting from Mysore, did not show any interest in discharging their duties. The member of the gram panchayat, Narayanswamy, and a few others took the in-charge hospital surgeon, Sreenivas Murthy, to task when he came to hospital at 2 p.m. The protestors said that unless disciplinary action was taken against the doctors, the problem could not be solved. They also raised slogans against the Chamarajanagar MLA, Vatal Nagaraj, for ignoring the problem.
