Recover advances from contractors: TDP

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, NOV. 19. The Telugu Desam Party has demanded that the Government recover Rs. 250 crores paid as mobilisation advances to the nine contractors identified for taking up major irrigation projects in the State.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, the TDP leaders, M.V. Mysoora Reddy and Ummareddi Venkateshwarlu, reiterated their demand for the resignation of the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, owning moral responsibility for the High Court orders striking down the Government decision to allot works to nine select contractors.

They asserted that the Chief Minister had no moral right to continue after the court observation that the entire procedure was faulty and unfair. The TD leaders wondered how the Government would recover the mobilisation advances.

It would be a Herculean task to recover the money from the contractors, the TD leaders said wondering whether some of them would repay the advances. They alleged that the Government went ahead with the works eyeing monetary benefits from the contractors. No Government had been rapped so badly by any court, they said.
