More resources sought for social science research
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD,
NOV. 19.
The Member of the National Advisory Council (NAC) and former Planning Commission member, Ch. Hanumantha Rao, has felt that more resources should be allocated for social science research to achieve excellence in the field.
Speaking at a two-day national conference on "Role of social science research in national development" organised by the Mahatma Gandhi National Institute of Research and Social Action (MGNIRSA) and others here on Friday, Dr. Hanumantha Rao said efforts should be made to identify bright students and groom them to achieve excellence in social science research. He said a lot of money was earmarked for rural development programmes but sadly the allocation for research and development was negligible. He referred to the ambitious plan of the AP Government to construct irrigation projects by spending Rs. 46,000 crores. He observed that there was no incentive for technology adoption.
`Reform needed'
Delivering the keynote address, A.K.Das Gupta, member-secretary, IASSI, underscored the need for reforming the social science education programme so that the benefits of the potentials created by technological innovations could be realised.
