ADILABAD, NOV. 19. The Rajiv Yuva Shakti and Indira Prabha (comprehensive land development project) were launched in Adilabad district on Friday by the Social Welfare and district in charge Minister, D. S. Redya Naik, amid much fanfare. While the former was launched at Adilabad, the district headquarters, the latter was launched at Karanji village in Tamsi mandal. In his addresses at both the places, the Minister said the State Government was committed to the all-round development of the State. He said as part of this commitment, employment opportunities for 1 lakh youth were being created. The Rajiv Yuva Shakti programme provided one such opportunity wherein youth could set up self-employment projects with financial aid from the Government. Land development Talking about the Indira Prabha, Mr. Redya Naik said the land development under RIDF X would be done to the extent of just over 3,000 hectares distributed among the 52 mandals. About 3,624 families would be covered by the project meant to develop the land assigned to poor persons by the Government. The Minister also spoke about various other welfare measures initiated by the Government for the uplift of the poor. The Adilabad MLA, C. Ramchander Reddy, said the State Government would sanction 6 lakh houses to members of weaker sections. Besides, the Government was committed to providing safe drinking water, he added. The District Collector, J. Sudha Rani, said the State Government would distribute about 11,000 acres of land among the landless poor on January 26 next year. She said that under Girijana Pragati, the Government sanctioned Rs. 50 lakhs for construction of toilets in tribal Ashram schools and purchase of four ambulances worth Rs. 20 lakhs for service in agency areas. The Minister disbursed assets under the Rajiv Yuva Shakti and artificial insemination kits under the Gopala Mitra scheme. He also distributed about Rs. 6 lakh as community investment fund to self-help groups under the `Velugu' project besides cheques towards subsidy of Rs. 3,000 to six beneficiaries of the disabled welfare department.
