3 persons held on molestation charge

By Our Special Correspondent

SALEM, NOV. 19. The Salem rural police today arrested three persons on charges of molesting a 43-year-old woman here on Wednesday evening. They are looking for seven more persons.

According to police, the woman and her cousin from Bangalore, who came to the city to purchase sarees, were waiting at the Old bus stand when a autorickshaw-borne gang of 10 persons abducted them. They were taken to a house in the city where the woman was reportedly abused and molested.

The next morning, the gang attempted to transport the two to another place in a car. Near the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College on Taramangalam main road, the woman and her cousin shouted and waved at a passing police jeep.

The police gave a chase but the gang members jumped out of the car and fled. However, three of them were nabbed.

The woman was admitted to the Salem Government Medical College hospital for a check-up. Talking to the media from her hospital bed, she claimed that the gang members raped her repeatedly on Wednesday.

Investigation is on under the guidance of the SP Pon Manickavel. A special team has been formed to nab the rest of the accused.
