Police SMS service launched

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, NOV. 19. A short messaging system that would enable mobile telephone users to gather real time information on traffic diversions in the city was launched by the Director General of Police, P.K. Hormese Tharakan, here on Friday.

The `Police short mail service' can be accessed by sending an SMS titled `TD' to the number 98476 10000. The system will give an `auto reply' detailing the day's traffic developments. Mobile phone users can also get information on stolen vehicles by sending SMS to the same number by typing `SV' followed by the registration number of the vehicle. The system will tell you whether the number is that of a stolen vehicle or whether the vehicle is involved in any accident or crime case registered in Thiruvananthapuram city.
