THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, NOV. 19. The Confederation of Residents Associations (Confra) has called upon the Government to declare M.G. Road extending from LMS Junction to East Fort as "procession-free zone" and to remove the sheds erected in front of the Secretariat. The Confra president, S. Reghu, told a press conference here today that processions and protest marches taken out by political parties, trade unions and other organisations, flouting all rules, caused much inconvenience to road-users.
All-party meet
Mr. Reghu said the Chief Minister should convene a meeting of all political parties to arrive at a consensus on shifting the venue of protest marches from the arterial road. Confra has suggested that a permanent venue be set up along the NH 47 bypass. The association will hold a dharna near the Fine Arts College, Palayam on Saturday from 9.30 a.m. to 3 p.m. demanding "procession-free zone". The Congres leader, M.M. Hassan, would inaugurate the dharna. Meanwhile, the Residents Apex Council of Kerala has welcomed the decision of the Vyapari Vyavasaya Ekopana Samithi to open shops during hartals. In a statement here today, the council general secretary, P. Krishnan Kavuvila, said the frequent hartals in the State were causing inconvenience to the people.
