Detained Sri Lankans await request for deportation
By Our Staff Reporter
TUTICORIN,
NOV. 20.
Four detained Sri Lankan nationals who were released by a court on Monday, are here awaiting official communication from the Sri Lankan embassy for their deportation.
Sources said one Rajan and three others were captured by the Coast Guard a few weeks ago, when they were fishing in the Indian territory. They were arrested and kept at a special cell in a refugee camp near Ramanathapuram.
Though the four have been released, they are waiting for the communication from the office of the Deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Chennai, requesting India to hand them back to Sri Lanka.
``We expect the letter to come by next week,'' the sources said.
They are under the protection of the police.
