NEW DELHI, NOV. 20. South Central Railway made it a disappointing start for Afghan Club, Bahawalpur in Pakistan, as it went down 4-3 in a pool III Nehru hockey tournament super league match at the Shivaji Stadium here on Saturday. Having reached here only in the morning, the Pakistani team was understandably weary and that was more evident in the defence that let in a few easy goals in the first half when it trailed 2-4. Punjab and Sind Bank, which trounced South Central 10-2 on Friday, tops the pool and will take on the Bahawalpur side on Sunday. The top two teams from each of the three-team pools go through to the knockout quarterfinals. Earlier, defending champion Punjab Police trounced Karnataka XI 5-1 to confirm its status as the No. 1 team in pool I while last year's runner-up Indian Airlines went down 3-2 to Indian Oil in pool IV to go out of contention. This was Airlines's second successive defeat. Punjab Police and Air India qualified for the last-eight stage from pool I while Indian Oil, with two wins, and the Border Security Force, with one win, made it from pool IV.
