LAHORE, NOV. 21. Veteran Pakistan journalist and the executive director of The News, Imtiaz Alam, was today unanimously re-elected as the secretary-general of the South Asia Free Media Association (SAFMA) for three years. At the fourth Conference of SAFMA, his name was proposed and approved by a voice vote as there were no other contestants. Mr. Alam, one of the founders of SAFMA, acknowledged the contribution of all those associated with it for having made it an organisation that had made a difference in the media. "It would not have been possible without the active support of my colleagues," he said, adding that he would continue to work for improving the media in SAARC countries. The president of SAFMA India, K. K. Katyal, said that Mr. Alam's re-election was in recognition of his dynamism. Mr. Katyal said that he had established SAFMA with full devotion, and added that "he has a vision, commitment and agenda."
