Chandy should oust Divakaran: Thamarakshan

By Our Staff Reporter

KOCHI, NOV. 21. The Chief Minster, Oommen Chandy, should oust the Labour Minister, Babu Divakaran, from the Cabinet, as the party has taken a decision to that effect, A.V. Thamarakshan, general secretary of the RSP(B), has said.

Inaugurating the party's district conference here today, Prof. Thamarakshan said that in a coalition Government, if a party demanded the removal of its nominee from the Cabinet, the Chief Minister was bound to go by the decision. He said the issue would be raised at the United Democratic Front meeting scheduled on November 24.

If the Chief Minister fails to take a decision on the party's demand, the issue would be taken to the Congress Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, he said.

Prof. Thamarakshan alleged that Mr. Divakaran went against the policies of the party in almost all issues and implemented his own agenda. The stand taken by Mr. Divakaran on the closure of public sector units, fixing of wages of textile shop employees and regulations on loading and unloading was against the policies of the party, he said.

Prof. Thamarakshan threatened to expose those constituents of the UDF who had earlier supported Mr. Divakaran in retaining his Cabinet berth if they continued to support the Minister.

The party leaders K.R. Kurup, P.G. Prasannakumar, Prem Sudha, T.K. Sasi and P.N. Kumar attended the meeting.
