Pulse polio: Tirupati posts 98 p.c. coverage

The Minister for Animal Husbandry, G. Surya Rao, and the Minister for Lift Irrigation, M. Mareppa, launching the pulse polio campaign in Kurnool on Sunday.

TIRUPATI. Nov. 21. Tirupati revenue division recorded 98 per cent coverage in the pulse polio campaign organise today throughout the State. According to Sarojamma, Additional DMHO, Tirupati, those who could not make it to the camps today would be covered during the `mopping-up' programme scheduled for tomorrow and day-after through a door-to-door campaign. Besides Tirupati town and Tirumala, the Tirupati-sector also covered the Primary Health Centres of Vadamalpet, Nindra, Puttur, Narayanavanam, Pitchatur, Nagari, Vijayapuram.

KURNOOL: The Minister for Lift Irrigation, M. Mareppa, and the Animal Husbandry Minister, G. Surya Rao, launched the pulse polio programme at B. Camp centre here on Sunday. A total of 4.83 lakh children were covered in the district at 2,632 booths across the district.

A number of NGOs and people's organisations also took part. At Netaji Theatre, the postal department set up a booth and administered vaccine.

The DMHO, K.K. Sai Prasad, the Municipal Commissioner, Venkateswarlu, the JD, Animal Husbandry, Manjuvani and others were present.

NELLORE: The Joint Collector, N. Sridhar, inaugurated the programme here and called for proper awareness among people, pertaining to polio eradication. He informed that arrangements had been made to administer polio drops to 2,99,187 children below 5 years, through 3,675 polio booths in the district. More than 5 lakh doses of vaccine have been supplied, besides mobilising 14,700 personnel, who are supposed to visit 5,70,239 houses.

CUDDAPAH: As many as 2.98 lakh children were administered oral polio drops through 3,047 pulse polio immunisation centres here. The Collector, Jayesh Ranjan, administered polio drops to children at Zion College here and called for efforts to make the district polio-free. The Indian Red Cross Society State Secretary, K. Rajyalakshmi, said the goal was to eradicate polio by 2006.

Chittoor: The district Collector, S.S. Rawath, inaugurating the programme at Durga Nagar colony here, said polio drops would be administered to 4.31 lakh children in 2,943 immunization centres in the district. Special centres have been set up at temple villages Tirumala, Srikalahasthi and Kanipakam to administer drops to the children of the pilgrims. Doctors would go to the door steps of those children who were not administered the drops on the second day and third of the programme. S.S. Rawath district Collector. Rajyasabha member Durga Ramakrishna, Municipal Chairman T. Chengalraya Naidu and Commissioner Rajendra Prasad were participated in the programme.
