KOLLAM, NOV. 21. The Kollam Mayor, Sabita Beegum, said here today that the Kollam Corporation, in association with the Energy Conservation Society (ECS) would launch a comprehensive energy conservation programme in the city. Inaugurating an energy conservation conference organised by the ECS as part of the month-long observation of energy conservation, the Mayor said cooperation of the residents' associations and `ayalkoottam' was needed to make the awareness programme a success. An energy conservation conference would be convened soon, she said.
Winners
In a paper presentation competition on "fuel conservation'' organised by the ECS for higher secondary students, the team from S.N. Public School led by Rahul Ramesh, won the first place. The team from St. Aloysius HSS led by Nirmala Netto won the second place. In the competition for water-mapping project for high school students, the team from St. Joseph's Convent HS led by Sreelakshami won the first place and the team from Vimala Hridaya Girls HS lead by A.S. Beena won the second place. In the cartoon competition for the higher secondary school students, Nikhil Ghosh from the S. N. Public School won the first prize and B. Mahesh from St. Aloysius HSS won the second prize. In the painting competition on "water conservation,'' M. B. Naveen from Odanavattom KRGPM HSS and Amal Hashim from S. N. Public School won the first and second prizes respectively in the higher secondary school category. In the high school category, the first prize went to Swetha from S. N. Public School and Ananthu from Karunagapally Boys HS won the second prize.
Clay-modelling
A clay-modelling competition for the upper primary, high school and higher secondary school students would be held at the Jawahar Bal Bhavan here on November 28, the ECS general secretary, S. Ratna Kumar, today said. The chairman of the Lalithakala Academy, Kanayi Kunhiraman, will distribute the prizes to the winners.
