HYDERABAD, NOV. 21. A four-member Ministerial committee has been constituted on Sunday to review the progress of the ongoing project of industrial water supply to Visakhapatnam. Comprising Koneru Ranga Rao (municipal administration), Ponnala Laxmaiah (major irrigation), Botsa Satyanarayana (major industries) and Konathala Ramakrishna (commercial taxes), the committee will review the execution of the project, examine the need and feasibility of making the necessary changes in the project structure and make recommendations. At a meeting, the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, enquired about the financial, technical and operational aspects of the project. It was explained to the Chief Minister that the Visakhapatnam industrial water supply company, in association with L & T, had been executing the project for which Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (Rs. 240 crores), NTPC (Rs. 50 crores) and Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (Rs. 60 crores) had together advanced Rs. 350 crores.
Project aim
The project is being implemented to augment supply of water to meet the future needs of the steel plant and other industries, including those coming up in Special economic zones.
Expeditious execution
After going through the power point presentation, Dr. Reddy felt that the execution of the project should be expedited. The Principal Secretary (industries), K.V. Rao, the Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, APIIC, L.V. Subramanyam and Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration, S.R. Rao, were present.
