MADIKERI, NOV. 21. Shivaratri Deshikendra Swami of Suttur Mutt inaugurated a satellite dialysis unit at the Vivus Hospital here on Sunday. The unit comprises two haemodialysis machines with a "reverse osmosis water plant", according to S.S. Ramesh, cardiologist and chairman of the Vivus Group of Hospitals. He told presspersons that the hospital had a tie-up with the JSS Trust of Mysore. The group wanted to provide the best medical treatment to the people of Kodagu at a reasonable cost. The new facility would obviate the need for patients to go to places such as Mysore, Mangalore or Bangalore for treatment, he said. The hospital, which started its operations in June last, had plans to add more speciality units in the coming years. The next addition would be a CT scan facility, Dr. Ramesh said. K. Gurudev, nephrologist, JSS Hospital, Mysore, said the dialysis unit would help patients save time, cost and related difficulties in the future. The nephrology unit of the JSS was linked to various hospitals in district headquarters, including the Vivus Hospital here, through telemedicine.
