PONDICHERRY, NOV. 21. The Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, administered oral drops to children below five years a primary health centre in Mettupalayam near here today. The Health Minister, E. Valsaraj, supervised the arrangements made in Mahe and administered drops to some children at a polio booth there, official sources said. The Health Department in collaboration with volunteers of the anganwadi centres and other service organisations and activists of the National Service Scheme implemented the drive, aimed at covering 93,522 children in Pondicherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam. Today was the fifth round of immunisation this year in Pondicherry and its outlying pockets. Our Villupuram Special Correspondent writes: The Education Minister, C. Ve. Shanmugham, inaugurated the administration of polio drops at the Mailam Primary Health Centre near here today. The Collector, Ka. Balachandran, said 3.28 lakh children up to five would be covered under the programme through 2,374 centres all over the district. A total of 10,000 employees and volunteers had been called out for the task, he said. At Cuddalore, the Collector, Gagandeep Singh Bedi, said the drops would be administered to 2.7 lakh children in the specified age group through 1,512 centres. In all, 7,000 employees, officials and volunteers had been deputed for the job.
