IMPHAL, NOV. 21. Reiterating that the Centre had no hand in the arrest of the Kanchi Sankaracharya, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi, the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, today expressed the hope that the Acharya would be treated with the respect and dignity he deserved. Answering a query during the press conference at Raj Bhavan here, Dr. Singh said: "It is my desire and hope that [the] Sankaracharya will be treated well and extended [the] courtesy due to a person of his religious stature, age and position in our society."
