EDUSAT website launched

NEW DELHI NOV. 21. Launching a special website www.edusatindia.org for EDUSAT, the dedicated education satellite, the Vice-Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University, H.P.Dikshit, exhorted the academic community to rise to the challenges presented by the latest technologies for delivery of education. He was addressing a teleconferencing session on "EDUSAT -- Capabilities, Benefits and Challenges'' at the Electronic Media Production Centre of IGNOU.

Prof. Dikshit advised regional directors and study centre coordinators to look for and identify qualified and renowned teachers who could act as resource persons and participate in the virtual classroom programme of EDUSAT. He highlighted the fact that so may good teachers, retired or not fully utilised, should be brought under the umbrella of EDUSAT to help learners throughout the country. He informed that compulsory education for all in the 6 to 14 years age group was bound to increase the demand for higher education.

Musicologist meets Sheila

NEW DELHI NOV. 21. The founder of Skanda School of Performing Arts, Chennai, B.A. Suresh, and his wife, a Bharatnatyam exponent and musicologist, Vidya Bhavani, called on the Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, today and presented her a series of books on Indian dance forms. The couple is on a nation-wide tour to promote and popularise performing arts traditions through their book series titled "Demystifying Fine Arts''.

Park developed

NEW DELHI NOV. 21. The Maitreya Preksha Seva Mission, a charitable organisation engaged in social and spiritual activities, has developed a park with swings for children. The park is located within the premises of Jeevan Deep Kusth Ashram in R.K.Puram and will be named as Shastri Park as part of the Lal Bahadur Shastri Centenary Celebrations.

Jindal School annual meet

NEW DELHI NOV. 21. The Vidya Devi Jindal School in Hisar hosted its 13th annual meet on Sunday. The former students interacted with the students and staff after being accorded a warm welcome by the VDJS family.

Speaking on the occasion, the principal, S. Kriplani urged the alumni to keep in touch with the school and said they were the best ambassadors. She also announced that the year 2005 would be dedicated to the students of the 1989 batch. A brief cultural programme was also presented on the occasion.
