CHENNAI, NOV. 21 . The Chennai Corporation said today that more than 4.25 lakh infants had been administered the polio vaccine in the second round of the Pulse Polio immunisation this year. The immunisation camps were organised in 1,126 booths by the civic agency. More than 800 municipal staff coordinated with other government departments and voluntary organisations to carry out the programme. The camps were run from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Target 4.8 lakhs
A target of 4.8 lakh children had been set for the camp. The coverage till Sunday evening was close to 90 per cent. Corporation officials said those children who were not administered the vaccine today on Sunday would be immunised through door-to-door vaccination programmes next week. The Deputy Mayor, R. Thiagarajan, inaugurated the Pulse Polio campaign at the Corporation health centre in Rajah Annamalaipuram this morningin the presence of AIADMK floor leader in the Corporation Council, V.Sukumar Babu, and Corporation Zone X chairman, R. Rajendra Babu. The previous immunisation camp was held on October 10. At the camps organised in Ambattur by the local body,more than 39,500 children were administered the vaccine. According to the Ambattur's municipal health officer, S. Rajasekaran, 70 camps were organised, involving over 250 municipal staff.
