MANGALORE, NOV. 21. Thieves broke open the glove compartment of the scooter of the Mangalore East (Kadri) police inspector, Kodandaram, and took away valuables worth Rs. 17,500. According to a complaint lodged by Mr. Kodandaram with the Barke (Gandhinagar) Police, the thieves took away a mobile handset, a Titan watch and Rs. 300 in cash from his scooter. He had parked the vehicle and gone for morning exercise at Mangala Stadium. The police are investigating.
Cheating
A case of cheating has been reported in Mangalore North (Bunder) Police Station. According to a complaint lodged by Lancy Goveas, Wilson John D'Souza of Akash Bhavan, working in his shop dealing with chemicals, reportedly misused the products, causing a loss of nearly Rs. 2.4 lakhs. A case has been registered and investigations are on.
Seized
Illegal blended liquor in four cans of 35 litres capacity and an autorickshaw used to smuggle it were seized near Goods Shed Railway bridge grounds here on Friday, according to a press release from the Excise Department. The release said the accused managed to escape under cover of darkness. The value of the liquor and the autorickshaw was estimated at Rs. 40,000. A case has been registered. In another case, a man was arrested on the charge of smuggling arrack. The Excise Department said 300 sachets of arrack were seized from the accused Ullas Bhandary of Panjimogaru Urundadi Gudde near Kulur. He was planning to transport the sachets by train to Kerala. He was arrested at the railway station when he arrived there on his motorcycle.
Burglary
Burglars entered the house of T. Mayyaddi at Thokur in Panambur Police Station limits on Saturday and decamped with nearly 490 grams of gold jewellery. The police said the burglars gained entry into the house by removing the roof tiles at the rear and took away the jewellery kept in a cupboard. The value of the jewellery had been estimated at Rs. 2.75 lakhs. The Panambur police have registered a case and are investigating.
