Manama: Bahrain's King on Monday ordered the release of a human rights activist who had been sentenced to one year in prison in a case linked to his criticism of the Prime Minister. Abdul-Hadi al-Khawaja was convicted earlier in the day of inciting hatred of the Government and spreading false information and sentenced to one year in prison. But the King, Sheik Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, later issued a decree ``pardoning Al-Khawaja from spending the rest of his sentence in jail, to suffice with the period he spent in jail before issuing this decree,'' Bahrain's news agency reported. The decree appeared to be a suspension of the remainder of the sentence rather than a pardon of the charges.
