PONDICHERRY, NOV. 22. The Education and Revenue Minister, K. Lakshminarayanan, today handed over Rs. 20,000 to each of the 104 poor families under the `Jana Sree Bhima Yojana' of the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC). The scheme is being operated since last year. The Revenue department had enrolled all families identified under `below poverty line' category in the scheme. When a person in the insured family dies of natural causes the family gets Rs. 20,000. Where the death is due to an accident the amount extended to the family is Rs. 50,000; for permanent disability the person gets Rs. 25,000. Mr. Lakshminarayanan said the Central and State Governments were remitting annually the premium amount of Rs. 100 to the LIC here and the insured did not have to pay any premium.
