NAGERCOIL, NOV.22. Even as some unidentified persons damaged over 15 Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation buses, including a private mini-bus, the bandh called by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and a few Hindu organisations, protesting the arrest of Kanchi Sankaracharya, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi, evoked poor response in Kanyakumari district today. Educational institutions, shops and other business establishments functioned as usual. However, a group entered the Government Higher Secondary School at Kannattuvilai near Eraniel and asked the students to leave the premises. They also damaged two TNSTC buses parked in front of the school, throwing stones. The drivers, Thanakamani and Rajan, were injured. The miscreants damaged the buses at Suchindrum, Payanam, Kadayalumoodu, Alankoni, Kulicodu, Kollai, Vattam, Eraniel, Thalaithentrikulam, Vallankodu, Ponmanai and Kanchiramkodu. However, the police made elaborate security arrangements to prevent any untoward incident. Meanwhile, cadres belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party staged demonstrations in the headquarters of seven Assembly segments to protest the arrest of Kanchi Sankaracharya.
