New wards at general hospital inaugurated

KOCHI, NOV. 22. The Ernakulam General Hospital should be developed so that it could serve as a high-tech hospital for the poor and needy, said the Fisheries and Sports Minister, Dominic Presentation.

Inaugurating the paediatrics ward of the hospital, renovated with the assistance of the State Bank of India, here on Monday, Mr. Presentation said that the patients and the public should take care to maintain the hygiene and cleanliness of the newly constructed hospital premises. The paediatrics ward, renovated at a cost of Rs. 3 lakhs, has 60 beds.

K.V. Thomas, MLA, who presided over the function promised Rs. 40 lakhs from his fund towards the Rs. 96-lakh project for hospital development drafted by the Hospital Development Committee chaired by the District Collector.

ENT critical ward

The District Medical Officer, C. Raghavan, inaugurated the ENT critical ward in the hospital. The critical ward, constructed at a cost of Rs. 4 lakhs, has six beds for emergency cases with modern equipments including bronchoscope, endoscope and videoscope.

The District Collector, A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish, SBI deputy general manager S. Ramakrishnan, Raghavan, General Hospital Superintendent, K.N. Omana, Seethalakshmy and P.J. Thomas of the SBI also spoke.
