Lukewarm response to VHP bandh

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE, NOV. 22. Barring some districts and cities in the State, there was lukewarm response to the call given by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad for a bandh against the arrest and treatment meted out to Sri Jayendra Saraswathi of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam.

Life was normal in Bangalore city. Educational institutions and government and private offices worked normally. Business establishments were open and public and private vehicles were plying on the roads. Reports reaching here said that the response to the bandh was good in Mysore, Mangalore, Udupi and Hubli districts. There were reports of stray incidents of stone-throwing on Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation buses from Hubli and Hospet. The State BJP leaders continued their `satyagraha' for the second day near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Bangalore. Those who participated today were the Leaders of the Opposition in the two Houses of the Legislature, B.S. Yediyurappa (Assembly) and D.H. Shankaramurthy (Council).
