Free eye check-up camp

NEW DELHI NOV. 22. As part of its 150 years anniversary celebrations, Bausch and Lomb and Delhi Public School at R.K.Puram today conducted a free eye check-up camp for students of DPS's underprivileged school -- Anubhav Shiksha Kendra. Basic vision examination to check for refractive errors were conducted on about 150 students of the school.

The camp is part of a nation-wide "School Health Campaign'' to raise awareness on eye care among youth which began on World Singh Day on October 14. A recent survey conducted by Bausch and Lomb and AC Nielsen indicated that 45 per cent of people in India require vision correction and are not even aware of it.

Intel, NIIT pact on learning

NEW DELHI NOV. 22. Intel, the world's largest chipmaker, and NIIT, Asia's biggest information technology organisation, have signed a memorandum of understanding to significantly enhance the use of technology assisted learning in schools. As part of the MoU, Intel and NIIT aim at doubling the number of Indian schools benefiting from computer assisted education to 80,000 by 2010. They hope to integrate information and communications technology in schools from kindergarten to Class XII. Intel and NIIT will also develop new technologies and education models to make the venture more affordable and accessible.

Painting competition

NEW DELHI NOV. 22. Pragyan School organised an on-the-spot painting competition at the school ground at Greater Noida on Sunday where schoolchildren from Delhi, Ghaziabad, Noida and Greater Noida took part. The contest was organised for four age groups -- 3-4 years, 5-8 years, 9-12 years and 13-16 years. The best entry in the competition was given the Satish Chand Memorial Award carrying Rs.10,000 while the three best entries in other categories were also awarded cash prizes.

Child art exhibition

NEW DELHI NOV. 22. An exhibition of art works titled "Verve'' by child artists from Russia and India was inaugurated today at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in the Capital. Organised jointly by the Centre, St. Petersburg-based Children Art Studio "Echo" and Nehru Bal Samiti, New Delhi, the eight-day exhibition will display paintings made by child artists from both the countries.
