'Congress will form next Govt. in Haryana'

FARIDABAD, NOV. 22. Senior Congress leader Avtar Singh Bhadana, who held a massive rally here yesterday to protest misrule of the Chautala government, expressed confidence that his party will be able to form the next government in Haryana after the Assembly elections and urged the Governor to probe charges of corruption against the Chief Minister.

"Seeing the response of the people, I am confident that the people will overthrow the corrupt and inefficient regime of the Indian National Lok Dal in the State and give the Congress a chance to form the government," he said in a statement.

The prominent Gujjar leader, who brought former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal and former Haryana Pradesh Congress Chief Bhupinder Singh Hooda together, said there was an urgent need to probe misrule of Mr. Chautala who had amassed huge wealth by various illegal means. The rally was also attended by the Union Minister of State for Poverty Alleviation, Selja, Industrialist O.P. Jindal, Congress general secretary Janardhan Dwivedi and several other functionaries.

Mr. Bhadana accused the state government of neglecting the interests of farmers and poor. "The farmer, weaker sections and workers are facing number of difficulties and nothing has been done in the past five years for the welfare of the agriculturist and industrial workers," he charged.

Mr. Bhadana praised the leadership of Sonia Gandhi, who had helped to galvanise the party in the State. "Her leadership and renunciation of power is praised by all people. It is unparalleled in the recent history,'' he said.

Mr Bhadana, who won Meerut parliamentary seat in 1999, was made Congress candidate from Muslim-dominated Faridabad seat with an aim to consolidate Gujjar and backwards votes in the State.
