Himachal seeks Central aid

SHIMLA, NOV. 22. The Himachal Pradesh Government has urged the Central Government to give 100 per cent assistance for strengthening the revenue administration and updating the records as it was not in a position to share the 50 per cent expenditure on this account.

The State Revenue Minister, Sat Mahajan, said that only the financially strong States could provide fifty per cent matching grants; a State like Himachal Pradesh could not bear the burden.

He also asked the Centre to provide adequate funds for setting up ``revenue training institute'' in Kangra district of the State.

Mr. Mahajan, who was speaking at the revenue ministers' conference, said the revenue department would be fully computerised by August 2005 and that the revenue records of four tehsils had been made online and 12 more tehsils would by covered by the end of December 2004.
