PANAJI, NOV. 22. The Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd., popularly known as Poompuhar, launched an exhibition of products of craftsmen in Panaji on Monday.

The Poompuhar Manager, R. Karunakaran, told presspersons here that the exhibition-cum-sale of craftsmen's products featured bronze icons, brass oil lamps, wooden carved items, Tanjore paintings, incense sticks and perfumes, jewellery and leather items besides various cloth material.

Poompuhar was helping poor craftsmen to market their products through exhibitions in different parts of the country, he said.

The exhibition in Panaji could not be held in the last three years because of administrative reasons, Mr. Karunakaran said. He added that Poompuhar had done a business of Rs. 6 lakhs in 2000.

The exhibition-cum-sale, which will go on till December 5, is being held at Clube Nacional, M.G. Road, between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Poompuhar is offering a 10 per cent special discount on product price.
