KOCHI, NOV. 22. The district-level expert committee on Protection of River Banks and Regulation of Removal of Sand that met at the Collectorate on Monday has decided to permit sand-mining at 16 more kadavus in the district. The 16 kadavus include two in Koovappady Panchayat, four in Kalady Panchayat, two in Perumbavoor Municipality, five in Malayattoor-Neeleswaram Panchayat, two in Valakam Panchayat and one in Kothamangalam Municipality. The committee, chaired by the District Collector, A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish, also decided to ban sand-mining at four kadavus as the removal of sand from these places were in violation of the rules. These include Mangalikkadavu in Malayattoor-Neeleswaram Panchayat and Charuparakadavu, Inchathottilkadavu and Cheekkodukadavu in Keerampara Panchayat.
