BANGALORE, NOV. 22. The Shivajinagar MLA, Katta Subramanya Naidu, on Monday inaugurated the road maintenance package outsourced to private contractors by the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP). The BMP Commissioner, K. Jothiramalingam, who was present, said it was the first time that the BMP had outsourced maintenance of 2,000 km of roads. The project, which would be completed in three years at a cost of Rs. 18.04 crores, would help the BMP to ensure that road maintenance is taken up regularly. The work includes pothole filling, road restoration, removal of debris, cleaning of roadside drains, painting of road name-boards, desilting of shoulder drains and levelling of footpaths. The corporators of the area M.K. Gunashekar, Mumtaz Begum and Nagaratna; the BMP Deputy Commissioner (East), N. Jayaram; the jurisdictional Chief Engineer, G.T. Chandrashekarappa, and other officials were present.
