Fazlu gang member arrested

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, NOV. 22. A 27-year-old man, who was allegedly a close associate of an underworld figure, Fazl-ur-Rehman, and was involved in cases of extortion, murder, kidnapping for ransom and criminal intimidation, was arrested by the Special Cell from Sarai Kale Khan bus terminus in South Delhi today. A revolver and six live cartridges were recovered from his possession.

According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell), Ashok Chand, the activities of the accused, Samse Alam, came to light in 2000 when his accomplices, Allauddin, Mohammad Gufran and Hyder Ali, were arrested in extortion cases reported from Kashmere Gate, Roop Nagar and Saraswati Vihar. In these cases, extortion calls had been made at Fazlu's instance.

After the arrest of his accomplices, Samse fled to Mumbai and then to Bihar to resume criminal activities there. Mr. Chand said Samse had been coordinating all the activities on Fazlu's behalf in the Capital. This year, he came here and formed a gang to commit extortions. The gang tried to extort money from a Rohini school principal. But, the police arrested four of the gang members, after which Samse fled to Kolkata. The Special Cell recently received a tip-off that Samse was again in town to reorganise the gang. This morning, the police laid a trap at Sarai Kale Khan bus terminus and arrested Samse.

During interrogation, Samse disclosed that he belonged to Fazlu's native place of Darbhanga in Bihar. He came to Delhi in 1997 in search of job but returned to his village two years later. He got initiated into the world of crime after he along with his friends stabbed to death his rival, Kamran. He then fled to the Capital and contacted Fazlu in 2000. Fazlu was then operating somewhere from West Asia.

Gradually, he won Fazlu's confidence and became his close accomplice. After he fled to Mumbai in 2000, he joined Fazlu's other accomplices there and made extortion calls to a businessman. However, two of his accomplices, Javed and Chand, were shot dead in an encounter with the Mumbai police and due to increasing police pressure, Samse had to flee to Darbhanga. There, he again formed a gang and committed a series of robberies and kidnapping for ransom. The police suspect that Samse had links with Rajan Tiwari, an independent MLA from Bihar who has several criminal cases pending against him.

Ciminals arrested

Two persons, who were allegedly involved in cases of murder, robbery and theft, were arrested from Defence Colony by the Special Staff of the South Delhi police this Monday. A stolen Santro car, a revolver and three live cartridges were recovered from their possession.

Acting on a tip-off that some criminals were moving in a stolen Santro car, a team headed by Inspector Rajinder Singh laid a trap and intercepted the vehicle at Defence Colony. The occupants were identified as Sunil and Deepak Chaudhry, both residents of Gurgaon in Haryana. During sustained interrogation, the accused revealed that this October they gunned down their rival, Naresh, at Udyog Vihar suspecting his involvement in the murder of their accomplice, Pawan.
