dated November 24, 1954: `Atoms for peace' plan

The Political Committee of the U.N. General Assembly on November 23 unanimously approved the Western resolution on President Eisenhower's "Atoms for Peace" plan. The Soviet Union voted with the majority after two amendments, which it had submitted, had been defeated. The resolution as approved endorsed the negotiations now in progress for the establishment "as quickly as possible" of an international atomic energy agency.
