SHIMOGA, NOV. 23. Manjunath Bhandary, a youth leader and general secretary of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, has been given the prestigious Eisenhower Fellowship from the Eisenhower Foundation of Philadelphia in the U.S. The citation says that "Bhandary has fulfilled with ability and integrity his mission as a leader from his own country, thus advancing the exchange of professional knowledge and human understanding among people, their opportunities and nations around the world.'' Those selected under the programme for this one-year process spend two months in the U.S. touring about 20 States and participating in more than 100 meetings and discussions, apart from various seminars and conferences in different fields. Mr. Bhandary said he considered it a memorable opportunity as apart from the usual fellowship engagements the programme allowed him to observe closely the U.S. presidential elections. He also had the opportunity to visit and study the American political, electoral, bureaucratic, educational and agricultural systems and processes. The doundation which was founded in honour of Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1953 is headed by Henry A. Kissinger. Its honorary chairmen are George Bush and Gerald R. Ford, former U.S. Presidents. The Congress President, Sonia Gandhi, has congratulated Mr. Bhandary on his achievement.
