Rupee loses ground

MUMBAI, NOV. 23. The rupee today lost ground against the U.S. currency due to renewed dollar demand from banks and arrested a brief overnight rally that took it to 5-1/2-month peak in mostly quiet and range-bound trading at the interbank foreign exchange market.

Closing at 45.06/07 a dollar, the rupee declined by 2-1/2 paise from yesterday's finish of 45.0350/0450, but higher from the intra-day low of 45.09/10 struck in early deals. The rupee opened distinctly weak at 45.0650/0750..
