NEW DELHI, NOV. 23. The president of the Madras High Court Advocates Association, S. Prabhakaran has been appointed vice-chairman of the All India Bar Association (AIBA), a national forum for lawyers for espousing the cause of the legal profession. In a statement, the chairman of the AIBA, Adish C. Aggarwala, and Mr. Prabhakaran, urged the Union Law Minister, H.R. Bhardwaj, to expedite the filling of over 200 vacancies of judges in various High Courts in the country. The Uttar Pradesh Bar felicitated Mr. Prabhakaran on Sunday on his appointment as vice-chairman of AIBA at the young age of 40. Thanking the AIBA, he urged the Law Minister to take immediate steps to fill the vacancies in the Madras High Court. He said of the total sanctioned strength of 49 judges, including the Madurai Bench, 22 posts were vacant.
